An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Structural Engineer to join J&D Pierce, one of the UK’s leading structural steelwork fabricators.
With over 40 years’ experience, J&D Pierce specialises in the design, fabrication, painting and site erection of structural steelwork, delivering some of the UK’s largest and most complex construction projects.
Renowned for innovation, J&D Pierce offers a fully integrated in-house service, providing advisory support in design and project planning and managing all operations from pre-construction through to erection. Operating from two state-of-the-art production facilities totalling over 615,000 sq ft, we deliver unrivalled quality, resource, and adaptability in a fast-changing industry.
The Role
You will work within our experienced Design Team, supporting the delivery of high-quality structural engineering solutions across major projects.
Key responsibilities include:

Producing structural design models, calculations, and technical reports

Supervising design drawing production and other project-related design deliverables

Liaising closely with the drawing office, manufacturing, and construction teams

Ensuring compliance with all departmental, legislative, and quality requirements

Coordinating and resolving design matters with client representatives

Contributing to innovation in methods and techniques to improve performance and reduce costs
Key Areas of Interest
Strong candidates will demonstrate particular interest in:

3D structural modelling and FEA software (ROBOT, Master Series, TSD)

Construction engineering, including build sequence analysis and temporary works
-
Simple and complex structural connection design
Skills & Qualifications
-
MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering (CEng-accredited)

Highly motivated with excellent communication skills

Strong attention to detail
-
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team

Must have the right to work in the UK
Location & Working Pattern
The role is primarily based at our Glengarnock headquarters, where the Design Team is located.
Following an initial onboarding period (minimum 6 months), there may be an opportunity to work from our East Kilbride premises, subject to agreement.

Working Hours

Compressed working week:
-
Monday–Thursday: 8:00am – 5:30pm

Friday: 8:00am – 1:30pm
