About the Role
We are looking for motivated and reliable Warehouse Operatives to join our Operations team across Barrett Steel Ltd sites. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role where you will play a key part in ensuring customer orders are fulfilled accurately, safely, and to the highest standards.
You will be responsible for supporting warehouse operations, stock control, order picking, and dispatch activities while maintaining excellent customer service and full compliance with health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Pick computer-generated customer orders accurately, including repetitive lifting and handling of large or heavy items
- Work efficiently as part of a busy warehouse team
- Ensure all documentation is completed accurately for stock control purposes
- Transfer stock safely using forklift trucks and overhead cranes (where trained and authorised)
- Assist with the production, preparation, and dispatch of customer orders
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Follow all health and safety procedures and legal compliance requirements
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors regarding operational issues
- Remain flexible and adaptable to meet changing business needs
- Operate warehouse machinery and equipment when appropriately trained
About You
We are looking for candidates who have:
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a warehouse or distribution environment
- Experience working in a flexible, results-driven team environment
- Proven experience as a Warehouse Operative
- Strong awareness of health and safety in the workplace
- Ability to read written instructions and accurately record completed work
- Understanding of EHS requirements within warehousing or distribution
- Good customer service skills
- Well organised with the ability to work independently
- Experience using saw machinery (where required for the role)
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience operating mobile equipment such as FLT or overhead cranes
- Experience within the steel industry (preferred but not essential as training will be provided)
- Full clean driving licence for vehicle shunting on site
